It retreives data from the hard drive and stores it on the graphic card. Which allows for the graphic card to load programs faster. It does not have to go to the hard drive everytime to retreive the data again.

What is RAM memory? RAM memory is a small circuit board that stores short term data or files. I say short term because RAM memory retreives data from the hard drive and saves it. So as you are using your program the processer goes to the RAM memory card and get information it needs, as opposed to going to the hard drive and retreiving the data again.This process is time consuming.
