The history of computer memory

With the introduction of the transistors in the 1950’s the world changed. Developing into what we know today as (RAM) Random Access memory or (ROM) Read only Memory. Bell Computers was the first company to build a computer using transistors in the mid 50’s. In 1970 Intel introduced DRAM (dynamic random-access memory), it can store 1024 bits which is equal to 1 kb memory. And today we have 3TB external hard drives and 128 GB USB drives, both introduced in 2010. Refer to computer symbols. The computer is made up of many components, the hard drive, the processor, and the RAM memory are only a few of them. The RAM memory is used in conjunction with your hard drive. You hard drive is also memory, but the hard drive has a much bigger capacity. Think of it like this, you at work at your desk where your RAM memory is and next door is a warehouse. You open a program or game and your processor goes to the warehouse and retrieves the data it needs, then it brings it to you and puts it on your RAM memory. Now when you use that same program again the data is retrieved from the RAM memory, and the processor does not have to go back to the huge hard drive memory and search for the data again. This can slow down a program you are working on. There are many types of memory storage components on your computer. As we talked about your RAM memory is short term and gets erased when the program is closed or you shut off your computer. ROM memory can only be programed once. It can not be altered, erased or edited. Cache memory, I’m sure you heard of. Is a short-term memory. For example: If you go to my website larry’scomputerclass.com, your computer will contact my host (host is the website I signed up with where I upload all my files and information needed to display my site). One file on my website is called syles.php, this is the file in charge of the design of your site. It does the sizing, shape, color, margin, borders and more. This can be a large file. The cache memory on your computer will save this file on your computer. Again, saving time because your computer won’t have to go back to my host (the warehouse) every time and retrieve the data. Cache memory is erased or deleted when you clear your history in your browser. Thanks and don't forget to like, subscribe and leave a comment. Any new ideas on other topics are greatly appreciated.
